Against all odds, he remains in Stormskerry, where he has his roots
Tale
Everyday life is a constant struggle for survival, but Maja holds on. I saw the 1970s TV series when I was a kid, so I knew the story, but I don’t remember enough to compare it to the movie.
And I was not disappointed!
So I went to the cinema with quite fresh eyes and an open mind. Amanda Jansson plays Maja beautifully.
Jansson is the heart of this beautiful film
She’s raw, free, strong, and Jansson’s talent really shines in her performance as Majy. The love story is captivating and even though the footage of this film is quite long, almost 3 hours, I had my eyes glued to the screen for the beautiful scenery of the Åland Islands and the captivating story.
It is simply fascinating and I was very moved by this film
It paints a gripping picture of the harshness of life on the archipelago in the 19th century and allows us to follow the beautiful Maja, her husband Janne and their family. The story and editing were a bit choppy at first, but as soon as Maja and Janne start their life together, the film finds its rhythm.
I can’t wait to see him again soon
I was moved to tears during several parts of the movie and almost didn’t want it to end.
