Precocious young man Karin finds himself abandoned by his father in rural Japan. He lives in a temple with his grandfather and meets Anzu, a giant “ghost cat” and notorious resident assigned to look after him. Suspicious of his new guardian, Karin sabotages Anzu’s odd jobs for the townspeople and befriends the eccentric local forest spirits. Anzu tries to win Karin over and accidentally makes a deal with the devil, and all hell breaks loose.
