A Montana ranching family faces off against others who are encroaching on their land. Forrie J. Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a seasoned hand in the world of Rodeo. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his mountain accent and reverts to his normal SoCal speaking voice. Yellowstone is a solidly written drama — great characters, well-crafted — that draws its tone from a few different modern-day masterpieces. It has the feel and cinematography of Longmire, the plot and bleak vision of The Sopranos, and the dramatic dynamics of shows like “Dynasty”; or any of the other network dramas like it. Much respect has to go to Costner and Cole Hauser — these guys bring it 100%. I didn’t expect to be as drawn to this show as I was. It’s well worth your time.
